Character of the trip
The Dolpo region in northwest Nepal, on the border with Tibet, is one of the most remote and untouched regions in the world. Due to its isolated location, Dolpo has been able to preserve its traditional Buddhist culture almost unchanged. There is no electricity or modern means of communication here, and the region is largely free of Chinese or Indian influence - in many ways more Tibetan than Tibet itself. Only accessible to a few travelers since the 1990s and associated with high permit costs, Dolpo is a unique gem that takes you on a journey back in time. Surrounded by majestic Himalayan mountains, you will experience authentic Tibetan culture and breathtaking landscapes that will accompany you on this unforgettable trek.
During the trek you will move at altitudes between 3,000 and 5,500 meters, which allows for good acclimatization. Our experienced Sherpa team will accompany you throughout the trip and take care of all the logistics. You only need to worry about yourself and your daypack. The Sherpas take care of setting up and dismantling the tent camps, cooking and showing you the way. This unique adventure, during which you cross several 5,000-meter-high passes, takes you through remote mountain villages and monasteries, far from mass tourism.
Difficulty rating and requirements
This trek is demanding and requires a very good physical condition and careful acclimatization. You will spend around 20 nights in a tent, and foregoing comfort plays an important role. The trek includes daily stages of 5 to 10 hours, during which an average of 500 to 1,200 meters of altitude are overcome per day. The maximum sleeping altitude is 4,500 meters, while the highest altitude reached is 5,400 meters. A stable physical condition and good stamina are essential, as are surefootedness and experience in mountain hiking. This trek is only suitable for very experienced and fit hikers and mountaineers.
